Juno

A seemingly generic coming-of-age story registers fresh as a quirky high school junior gets impregnated by man-boy Michael Cera and decides to go through with the birth and give the child up for adoption. Although the flawless comic dialogue breaks down the illusion of reality at multiple points, calling attention to the throngs of giggling high school kids in the theater enjoying one-line quips as much as any old cinema elitist, it’s hard not to appreciate the brilliant dialogue juxtaposed against high school faces and suburban parents. The movie flowed like that of any high school comedy-drama, for the exception of unusually long takes given to examine moments of very real emotion developed by what felt like very good actors. I didn’t find too many deep themes lurking about, although true love found a way and everyone redeemed themselves or disappeared by the end.
